It’s no secret that I am a coffee-lover. My family and friends have gifted me every coffee related gift there is. From coffee machines to aero-presses, freshly ground beans and even flavoured syrups – I’ve tried them all. But no matter how many times I get coffee at Costa or Starbucks, I still don’t have a “usual” order. Much to the dismay of my local barista who always attempts to guess my order before I actually make it. But the truth is; I like variety.
So you can understand how I was slightly skeptical when the TASSIMO team recommended I try the TASSIMO My Way brewer. How can a coffee machine really offer me anything and everything I want in my morning brew? Especially someone like me? One day I’m in the mood for a mocha, the next an espresso. Not to mention the summer months when I often crave an iced caramel macchiato.
How Do You Take Your Coffee?
One of the unique traits of the TASSIMO My Way brewer, is that it really allows you to have your coffee the way you like. Having used and owned other coffee machines before, I find that other models are often overly complicated and difficult to use. However, the TASSIMO My Way brewer is different in it’s design. The design is simple and easy to understand with the various settings, and the brewer itself is very intuitive.
As a smart machine, it can differentiate between coffee and non-coffee pods. This comes in handy with some of the 2-pod drinks like cappuccinos for example. You also have the option to have chocolate based drinks that simply just need to be set for temperature and volume of liquid.
I’m sure you also like to mix it up once in a while and would opt to have a different type of coffee for different times of day or even depending on what you are eating. For me personally, I find that there are particular coffees and beverages that go with certain dishes or food.
But I don’t want you to just take my word for it. Why not try some of my favourite coffee and breakfast pairings?
Americano with Pancakes & Fruit
If you like your breakfast on the sweeter side, then keeping your coffee on the simpler side is probably best. That’s why I would team up an americano blend for a breakfast of pancakes. The great thing about the TASSIMO coffee selection is that there are many different variations of their coffee pods. In particular the americano selection includes a version from Costa as well as a Kenco one.
For those that usually enjoy an espresso, then an americano should be an enjoyable alternative as it is essentially a longer espresso. The Kenco variation is very smooth and is a perfect blend of coffee. I personally make mine with a stronger blend so select the 3 bean icon and with medium heat. This way I can enjoy it straight away without having to wait for it to cool down.
Simply an Espresso with Toast
Sometimes the simplest things in life are the finest. And for me, nothing is finer than a good espresso. I’m also not always in the mood for a big breakfast, especially on work days. So most mornings is usually some toast and an espresso before I head off to the office.
The TASSIMO espresso pods from Jacob’s are my absolute favourite. I’ve even already started running out of the espresso pods! My obsession with espresso actually came after a trip to Italy a few years ago. It was then I discovered coffee “bars”. My friend actually introduced me to this very Italian tradition.
We would go about the day visiting tourist spots throughout the area and stop by at a coffee bar every 2-3 hours and have an espresso. We wouldn’t even sit down, we would simply order an espresso, I was a smoker at the time, so I would enjoy a smoke too. Ever since then, I’ve loved a good espresso.
A Full English & Cappuccino
It’s no secret I love a good brunch. But my ultimate weakness is a full English breakfast! And for me, nothing goes better with my scrambled eggs, beans, hash brown and fried mushrooms – than a cappuccino!
My boyfriend also agrees with me. He usually orders an americano or double espresso, but whenever we have a full English, he’ll opt for a cappuccino too. I’m not even sure what it is about a cappuccino that matches it so well. I’ve always thought the fact that it’s made with frothy milk so it’s a bit lighter than a normal coffee makes it go well with heavier breakfast dishes.
But there’s no doubt about it, cappuccinos are the beverage of choice for big breakfasts! The real question for me is, is it even a cappuccino if you don’t have chocolate powder on top?
TASSIMO My Way, My Verdict
So what did I really think about the TASSIMO My Way brewer? It’s a very simple yet versatile machine. The huge variation in pods makes this a machine for anyone’s taste. Unlike other machines that need various nozzles and add-ons in order to create different beverages or even for just frothing milk. The TASSIMO brewer only has the single nozzle, meaning it doesn’t take up too much space and can fit neatly on your kitchen top.
If I had any negative feedback, I would probably highlight that the instructions weren’t very easy to interpret. However this is counteracted with the simple and intuitive design of the machine. I found that I didn’t actually have to read the instructions to understand certain icons or buttons.
It’s available from high street retailers including John Lewis and Currys as well as Amazon. Priced at around £100, it’s in the mid-range when comparing to other models and brands. From a cost perspective, I would say it’s very worth it as it will get a lot of use due to the variation it allows.
All in all, it’s a great machine that I would highly recommend. The TASSIMO My Way brewer is perfect for those looking to buy their first machine. I use it almost everyday and can’t imagine how I managed to live through years of just mixing ground coffee beans and hot water!
