Who doesn’t love to escape the winter dreariness and head to an exotic, hot destination? There’s nothing better than heading to the airport when the weather makes you just want to curl up in bed, and then arriving after your flight at a destination right in the middle of summer!
So what are you waiting for? Beach days, cocktail evenings, and lazy days await you on that winter sun holiday. But before you get that far, you’ll want to ensure that you’re able to look your best while you’re away! After all, you’ve probably been hiding in multiple layers for some time now. Take my tips below, and get yourself ready to rock the summer look all over again.
Prep Your Skin
It probably feels like your skin has been in hibernation since summer sadly departed. And now, thanks to your winter getaway, it’s about to be flung back into the sunlight and warmth. You know how when you turn a light on in the middle of the night, it seems extraordinarily bright? Yeah, your skin’s going to get the same feeling when it touches down in hot, humid weather. So it’s important that you properly prepare your skin.
Pack plenty of sun block and moisturiser, and make sure that you’re slowly easing yourself into the sunshine; start with thirty minutes in the beginning, and then hit the shade. It’s also advisable to drink plenty of water to compensate for any dehydration from the flight or from just being in the sun and heat.
Pack The Perfect Outfits
Packing for a sunny holiday when you’re coming from cold climates like London, mean it can be difficult to find summer outfits. But this is actually a perfect opportunity to buy yourself some summer clothes ahead of the warmer months. I personally love the selection from City Chic dresses, as well as their bikinis, stylish shorts and flip-flops, and most come in plus sizes perfect for me.
Adjust to Your Destination
If you’re travelling a far way for your holiday, then you’re going to look and feel tired when you first arrive, especially if you’re crossing time zones. This is not a good look! If you know you’re going to be waking up to a different time zone, adjust your watch on the flight to make sure your body clock is balanced and adjusts quicker to the new timings. This will also help to ensure you won’t be affected by jet lag.
Accessory Hacks
Summer is all about the accessories. When we’re not wearing too much fabric, they allow us to showcase our personality and an extra touch of style to our outfits. So a winter sun holiday is perfect for loading up those hats, sunglasses, jewellery, and everything else that’ll have you looking your best. Not to mention that they are also perfect for hiding tired eyes and skin!
Dress to Impress
Finally, remember that it won’t all be beach times when you’re travelling. You’ll have opportunities to hit the bars and restaurants of your destination, so pack a few outfits that’ll take you from a day sightseeing through to an evening dancing the night away. This is where layering can come in really handy, so why not pack a biker or denim jacket?
Have you got a winter sun holiday planned? What would you pack for a trip in the sun?

I am busy stalking weather apps to check the weather in Portugal for this time of year as have no idea what to pack
This post is super helpful. I’ve never been abroad anywhere hot in wintertime but have always wanted to visit that amazing massive indoor faux beach in Germany!
I can’t remeber the last time I was abroad but I really should look after my skin more even in the UK. I love your idea of layering to face space but keeping an outfit fun
Thanks for tips. It will help a lot to plan my future trip.
I’m all for a good accessory! They make for the perfect outfits!
I always adjust my closet to my destination, these are some really lovely tips making me wish I was going on a holiday with some sun this winter but alas not only cold places coming up
Having some winter sun is great. Always good to adjust your wardrobe to the destination
That’s a great tip about adjusting your watch whilst on the plane. I never thought to do that and just rely on my phone automatically changing – which sometimes doesn’t happen!
