Top summer fashion trends for 2017

The sudden surge of warm weather in London has got me inspired with all the latest summer fashion trends. So what better way to explore fashion trends then to gather my inspo from some of my favourite fashion accounts on Instagram.

If you’ve never lived in London or in the UK for that matter, then you might not be inclined to the temperament of British weather. Mother Nature is a complicated being here and if you’re not careful you can often be mislead by the bright shining sun. Only to be later met with heavy clouds and rainfall!

One minute it can be hot and sunny and the next flooding in the streets. (No exaggeration, this actually happened today!) So dressing for any situation is key. Or at least wearing flexible styles and pieces to suit a range of seasons.

The awkward length jeans

This has to be one of my favourite summer fashion trends this year. I’ve been in love with awkward length trousers for office wear for a while so this is a perfect transition for the summer.

Flared cropped jeans are my current fave and are perfect weekend wear, or perhaps dress up with some heels and tailored shirt?

The statement sleeve

I saw this trend last year and fell in love with it then, and still love it now. It’s perfect to jazz up any outfit, but certain materials will mean it is still lightweight enough for summer months.

A statement longsleeve shirt is also formal enough for the office and can be easily worn with many pieces to be suitable enough to wear at work.

The denim jacket

This is a trend that is seen year to year, decade to decade. It never goes out of style. The cut might change ever so slightly but a good denim jacket is a top investment next to a good leather biker jacket.

My current favourites are the oversized bleached washed ones. I was lucky enough to have inherited one from my Dad which is from his hay day in the 80’s!

The flat mules

I’ve been in love with mules and slip ons ever since I first spied the Gucci ones! I actually have these Gucci inspired dupes from Linzi.

The heeled mule is perfect as it can dress up any outfit and take simple jeans into an evening outfit. The flat mules are perfect for lazy days and you can also get more formal looking ones to keep your outfit office-friendly.

One of the things I love about summer fashion trends is that you can be a bit more adventurous. I like to opt to wear different colours and styles that I normally wouldn’t go for. Not really sure why this is, but for some reason summer brings this out of me!

What about you, what are your favourite summer fashion trends this year? Do you have any to add to the list?

I do like the freshness of summer fashions. Nice to get new things after the winter months have finally gone away. I really like cropped trousers and jeans, they are great for casual or smart. Never sure of the flared sleeve on tops, had a top last year with them and they were just annoying. Look nice, but not very practical.

My favourite look is the statement sleeve I think. It looks like Adam and the Ants circa 1983

I haven’t seen some of these before. Maybe I need to update my fashion news feed and start following the trends popular among everyone.

I can never really get to grips with the odd length jeans, but I’m embracing my denim jacket all the way! It’s festival season, and there’s basically no other accessory you need more when you’re traipsing around muddy fields still trying to be fashion aha!

I’m a bit old and boring to get away with contemporary styles like this anymore, but I hear ya about the weather though – so weird at the moment, isn’t it?! x
